Pulse, Tongue, Facial Evaluation
& Pulse Testing of Remedies

by Matthew Wood

5 Monday Evenings
January 30, February 13, 20, 27, March 6

6:30pm to 9:00pm

This class is intended for those who seek to be professionals in the field of herbalism, acupuncture, or feel a need to pursue education in holistic evaluation. We will look at tongues and faces of ourselves, and guests that want a ‘free evaluation’ and pictures. We will take pulses, learning the basic system taught in Chinese medicine, plus some of the pulses used in Greek medicine. Matthew Wood studied pulse diagnosis at the California School of Acupuncture, and has been practicing for over thirty years. He is the author of Traditional Western Pulse Evaluation, with Francis Bonaldo and Phyllis Light—book recommended but not required (we can order several at the same time).

2.5 hours. Minimum class size: 3, but Volunteers welcome for evaluation.

Seven Herbs, Plants as Teachers

Shamanic Herbalism, the Speech & Wisdom of Nature,
& the Doctrine of Signatures

by Matthew Wood

Sunday Afternoons
January 29, February 5, 26, March 5, 12, 19 & 26

1:00pm to 4:00pm

These are the herbal subjects that make my heart sing. I can talk about plain, ordinary, important household herbs, but I love the esoteric depths of herbalism so we are going to talk about the shamanic path—the Old, Old Path—the Wisdom of Nature, the Speech of Nature (which is how not to talk and think like an invader), and always of course the doctrine of signatures. Including plant attunements. Easter Lily, Yerba Santa, Iris, Wormwood, Black Cohosh, Lady’s Slipper, and other remedies: California Bay Laurel, Lady’s Mantle, Goldenrod, Angelica, Solomon’s Seal, Tarragon, and many more.

The seven herbs in this series represent stages of unfoldment as they form a natural progression from one stage of knowledge to another. We will be recording each class in the series so if you miss a class you can still receive the information. We also offer an individual class option.

The Immune System & Immune Remedies

Necessary Study for Our Time

by Matthew Wood

Saturday, February 25

1:00pm to 5:00pm
The immune system of the human race is being assaulted, first by toxins in our food and environment that have been with us for 50 plus years, then by pharmaceutical drugs and their ‘side-effects,’ medicine based on symptom-suppression, and finally by covid and the vaccinations, both of which have been ‘not nice.’ The only good thing I can see in the events of the past two years is that our understanding of the immune system has increased, just as it did when HIV AIDS was rampaging. Now we are coming to understand the innate immune system and the acquired Immune system, how they differ, what effect toxins, disease, and vaccines have upon them, and what to do for treatment.

The Nervous System

by Matthew Wood

Saturday, March 11

1:00pm to 5:00pm

We begin with a quick overview of the nervous system: central (conscious), autonomic (unconscious), sympathetic (fight or flight), parasympathetic (rest, recover, sleep, dream).

Next a look at Neurotransmitters and the “three selves” (animal—dopamine, adrenalin; human — serotonin; spirit — DMT), and Nervous System Problems: nervousness, tension, relaxation, debility, weakness, pain, insomnia, some headaches.

Nervines or remedies will be discussed all through the class. Wood Betony, Black Hoarhound, Skullcap, Motherwort, Mugwort, Valerian, Passionflower, Peppermint. Magnesium supplements, Phosphate homeopathic, and more.
