Holy Smokes – Plants for Clearing, Cleansing and Protection:
December 6 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Elder (Sambucus nigra) – The Elder tree has been revered and cherished through out time for it’s magical and medicinal qualities. The beautiful green leaves, white-creamish flowers and dark berries all have their place in the home medicine chest and kitchen.
Join us for an exploration of Elder’s transformational properties of resilience, recovery and renewal. A direct experience of journeying with the plant thru meditation, ingesting a small dose of tincture, flower essence and/or tea and a plant attunement will further foster the connection. This is plant spirit medicine!
After our Plant Journey we will gather together to make elderberry syrup. Everyone will go home with an 8oz bottle of syrup.
Cost: $45 plus $10 material fee paid directly to teacher at time of class.
Plant Journey Classes:
This Winter we will be exploring, experiencing and cultivating relationships with the Trees. We are blessed to have many native trees growing around us that have a rich and deep history of use for medicine, food and ceremony. Come join us for a Journey into the world of Tree magic, healing and lore. Our minds, hearts and senses will open to new worlds and possibilities through each Tree. This is Plant Spirit Medicine!
In each class, we will explore the different ways the trees weave their magic through the telling of their story. The plants speak to us through their ethnobotany, mythology, growing habits, energetic make-up and chemical soul. After being introduced to the plant and its story we will Journey with a spirit dose of tincture, flower essence, tea or food. A personal plant attunement will further foster the connection. There will be time for the integration of the wisdom attained by the sharing of our experiences and/or journaling and some classes will include medicine making.

See below in this column for Matt Wood's classes
A series of classes taught by internationally acclaimed herbalist Matthew Wood.
The Extracellular Matrix, Lymph & Blood:
November 2 & 3, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm.
The extracellular matrix is the space surrounding the cell; it is filled with specially structured water, polymers, and fibers. It acts as the communication center and “brain” for the cells, controlling feeding, waste removal, replication, and migration. It binds all cells into a single integrated unit, proving the truth of holistic medicine that the body functions as a whole. It is fed by the blood and drained by the blood and lymph. In this class we will study these three systems (matrix, lymph, blood) and their remedies as a very powerful, simple foundation for influencing the organism.
The Heart & Circulation:
November 9 & 10, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm
The heart is both the monarch and the recipient of circulation. In this class we will learn to see the heart more simply, as muscle, nerve, & tendons, subject to stresses and intimately tied to the dynamic circulation. In the old days all conditions were sometimes treated through the circulation – as in osteopathy. This class will highlight imbalances of circulation as well as changes in the heart, and their treatment.
Circulation tells a story. The patter of blood dispersal reveals disease patterns and treatment possibilities. There is the chance for assisting cardiovascular health preventatively even after its development.
Cost: $250 per weekend class or $625 when you pre-register and pay for all 3 weekends upfront.
Pulse, Tongue & Facial Evaluation:
Friday Evenings before each weekend class from 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Pulse, tongue and facial evaluation dates back several thousand years and has been used by practicioners of Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine as a diagnostic tool to help determine the condition of disease or health of an individual. The tongue, pulse and facial look can indicate a person’s state of health and provide vital cues on the degree of imbalance. Class is both lecture and hands-on.
Cost: $50 per class (must have 5 people registered for class).
The Muscular & Skeletal Systems:
February 1 & 2, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm
Pain meds generally do not heal a problem and the pain persists. How do we achieve lasting, rehabilitating results? In this class you will learn remedies for the bone, muscle, tendon, extracellular matrix polymers and fluids, synovial fluids, cerebrospinal fluids, nerves (boneset, teasel, parsley, solomon’s seal, gotu kola, comfrey, pleurisy root, black cohosh, st. john’s wort, prickly ash, etc.), and analyze which are needed for what kind of injury is present.
GI Tract, Lymph & Liver:
March 7 & 8, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm
Seventy per cent of the immune system is located in the digestive tract, intimately intertwined with the mucosal surface and the lymphatic drainage. In this class we will study how the liver detoxifies the blood, including antidoting allergins, and keeps the rest of the organism from being poisoned by the contents of the GI tract, while the lymph drains toxins (and food, lipids) — so all these organ systems act together, hopefully in harmony
Skin, Kidneys, Temperature & Water Regulation:
March 14 & 15, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm
Learn how to understand, monitor, and treat the kidneys and the bladder (cystitis is a disease of old and new times). Class provides an overview: water management in general (kidneys/skin, kidneys/colon, matrix/lymph/kidneys).
The Wisdom of Nature:
Friday March 6 & 13, 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Nature is a living; conscious being, thinking and speaking in a language of her own. She is arranged by archetype, essence, or whole being; and therefore she and all her creatures speak to us through these patterns to our intuition. We can feel belongingness, wholeness; and joy when we live in communion with Nature and speak her tongue. This accumulated experience and speech is called the Wisdom of Nature.
FALL 2020, Dates TBD
Matthew Wood will be teaching 6 additional classes as part of our Herbal Wisdom school offerings. Class info to come.
